General Local Elections

Squamish-Lillooet Regional District General Local Election 2026

A General Local Election is held every four years in British Columbia. The next General Local Election will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors composed of four Electoral Area Directors (areas A – D) and seven Municipal Directors (District of Lillooet (1), Village of Pemberton (1), Resort Municipality of Whistler (2), District of Squamish (3)).

In a General Local Election, an Electoral Area Director may be elected by acclamation (in the case of a single qualified candidate) or by voting (where there is more than one qualified candidate). Each Municipal Director on the SLRD Board is appointed by their respective Council from their elected members.

The SLRD is located within the core traditional territories of the Swx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), St’át’imc Nation and Líl’wat Nation, a distinct Nation with linguistic, cultural, familial and political ties to the St’át’imc Nation. Each Nation is independent and self-governing, and parts of the SLRD also overlap with the traditional territories of the Stó:lō, Tsleil-Waututh, Nlaka'pamux, Tsilhqot'in and Secwépemc Nations. The SLRD is committed to supporting inclusive participation in local elections. Information for Indigenous voters and potential candidates, including eligibility and voting considerations for those living on reserve, is available within the voter and candidate sections of this page.

Voters within the SLRD may also see candidate names for School District Board Trustees during a General Local Election on their ballot.

Elections for the SLRD are administered by the Corporate Services department. For election related inquiries, please contact election@slrd.bc.ca or call 604-894-6371 ext. 0 during business hours.
